If a stock record is of type 'Finished' or 'Component', by entering a quanity in to the trial kitting module followed by 'Refresh' will calculate all requirements and shortgaes at both the component and material levels.  Two option buttons allow the display to change between components and materials. If however you check the 'include components' option then the material grid will show both.

 

Trial kitting is useful for checking stock before creating a job order build. It will show actual stock levels, work inprogress, purchase orders and shortages of materials. The component side will show if there are sufficient sub parts available without any manufacturing requirements.
